Join the LEARN Network for a summer conversation series with education leaders to discuss a vision for an evidence-based education ecosystem. As part of this visioning, we’ll consider the entire ecosystem of actors, organizations, processes, and resources that work together to shape education.

Part 3, “Local Perspectives on Scaling Evidence Use,” features renowned experts Jerry White and Chris Jones for a discussion of the mindset, culture, staffing, and development needed to create an education system where the identification, use, and generation of evidence in teaching and learning is “business as usual.” Learn more about the conversation and the panelists below.

About the Panelists

Chris Jones

Chris Jones is the Executive Director of VATLL and most recently served as the principal of Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield County Public Schools (2,500 students in two campuses), where he also served on division-level leadership committees. Dr. Jones has also served as the Programs Committee Chair for VASCD, the Chair for the Central District, and the Chair for Region 6A as part of the Virginia High School League. Prior to his service in Chesterfield, Dr. Jones was an assistant principal, central office teacher leader, and high school math teacher in Virginia Beach. He has also served as assistant principal of Sussex Central Elementary School. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education–Mathematics from Columbus State University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University (GWU), and a doctorate in Education from GWU. Dr. Jones found his passion for education following his service as a United States Army Airborne Ranger. 

Jerry White

Jerry White is a lifelong educator and school leader with extensive experience in both teaching and administration. He began his career teaching Business Education at Van Buren Jr-Sr High School and later served as Assistant Principal at the same school. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Superintendency from the University of Maine at Orono and went on to serve as Superintendent of Schools in various districts for three decades, earning recognition as Maine’s Superintendent of the Year. 

He continues to contribute to public education through his service on the Mid Coast School of Technology School Board and the Northeast & The Islands Regional Educational Lab Governing Board. He also serves as the NREA Legislative Representative for the Maine Small Schools Coalition and sits on the National Rural Education Association Executive Board. His dedication to rural education was honored with induction into the NREA Hall of Fame.
